Smoke Free Beach
Areas designated for smokers
Have you been dreaming of a smoke-free beach for years? Here in Bibione, your dream has come true with the launch of Bibione Smoke Free Beach, a project created with the aim of improving your holiday experience. With this step, our town is moving in an important direction: towards sustainability, the only way to preserve the beauty of the destination and the characteristics for which it is loved and frequented.
This journey began back in 2011 with “Respira il Mare” (Breathe the Sea), when we began to truly believe in the vision of a beach where you could sink your feet into sand free of cigarette butts and breathe clean air. After eight years of experimentation, Bibione has demonstrated, with Smoke Free, that it has taken seriously the challenge launched by Health 2020, the European policy for health and well-being that aims to prevent and reduce the severity of diseases.
In defining how the smoking ban will be enforced, the project includes the creation of equipped and designated areas where smoking is permitted.
- The smoking areas are marked by wooden structures to make them easily recognisable, and there will be 40 of them along the 9 km of beach.
- The penalty for non-compliance with the regulations is a fine of 50 euro.
- The surveillance will not be an invasive presence on the beach, but will be ready to intervene if necessary.
- If, despite clear and widespread signage, there are bathers who decide to smoke on the beach, you can contact the lifeguards and the Municipal Police to report the violation of the ban.
P.S. For those who wish to learn more, the smoking ban is governed by Article 4a4 of Ordinance No. 17 of 30/04/2019 regulating beach activities issued by the Municipality of San Michele al Tagliamento.
